Aimed at agencies, government and community groups that wish to adopt a harm reduction policy, the Manitoba Harm Reduction Network has developed guidelines and an evaluation framework to assist in this process.
Implementation of a harm reduction policy will provide agencies with direction and clarity in providing effective services from a harm reduction perspective. Clear definitions and understanding of the principles and objectives of harm reduction will bring consistency and unity of purpose within an organization.
The framework outlines key principles of action that include information, education, outreach, supportive programming, research and evaluation. The principles of harm reduction are used as a method of conducting evaluation of the policy as well as programs and services being offered.
The Manitoba Harm Reduction Network encourages all members to consider implementing a policy within their agency and upon request, offers development and implementation support.
